Stations is a site-responsive installation that explores impermanence, memory, and meaning-making through poetry, photography, and sound. Created in the aftermath of the December 2023 tornado that devastated a forest near Old Hickory Dam in Nashville, this work engages with the traces of loss, Intimacy, and change.
Each piece captures a moment of interaction: poetry inscribed onto fallen trees, fragments of text left to the elements, and ephemeral marks of presence in a shifting landscape. Some of these works, made to be exhibited both indoors and outdoors, are beginning to show the marks of weather, wear, and time, reinforcing the themes of impermanence and ongoing change.
The accompanying 12.5-minute audio composition is an integral part of the experience. Incorporating natural field recordings of the space, environmental resonance, and layered cello arrangements, the soundscape is designed to parallel visual reflections of proximity and absence. Visitors are encouraged to remain in the space for the duration of the audio, meditating on the experience of presence, absence, and personal reflection.
