Painting portraits for a living has given me an appreciation for composition, line, color, form and visual accuracy. Painting for pleasure has allowed me to experiment with paint application and expressive mark making.

My current work synthesizes what I have learned along the way. Depicting natural objects in abstracted environments allows me to transcend simple representation and portray in paint the essence of our shared visual recognitions. I am drawn to the way various components of nature look, work and how they connect.

My method involves applying paint and scraping it off, often using a brayer and palatte knives. Interspersing transparent passages and opaque paint creates an energetic background for the narrative of my work.
